About the job:
The role consists of delivering timber and fencing products on a local and regional basis. Local deliveries are generally multi-drop in nature, and cover Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Monmouthshire and the surrounding counties. These deliveries often require unloading by hand, and can be to either homes or to trade customers.
We also make regional deliveries to wholesale customers throughout South Wales, the South West, The Midlands, and the South East. These are often to merchants or building sites.
Most deliveries are completed within the standard working hours of 8am-5pm Monday to Friday. Occasional earlier starts or slightly later finishes may occur. There are no nights out or evening work.
You will be responsible for driving vehicles ranging from a pickup truck to a 26-tonne ridged HGV. You will need to liaise with customers on a daily basis and work to a schedule to ensure deliveries are made in a timely manner. The successful candidate will need to be able to identify the correct products to unload at each customer’s premises.
About you:
As you will be responsible for delivering to our customers, you will be well presented and have a polite, professional and positive manner.
You will be expected to have a good working knowledge of, and adhere to the rules and regulations set out by the DVSA and the Road Traffic Act. This includes such things as daily vehicle checks, Safe loading practices and load security, digital tachograph and drivers’ hours, Regular wheel and tyre checks, Defect reporting and basic vehicle maintenance.
You will need to be able to unload timber products by hand when required.
You will be responsible for ensuring all vehicles are kept clean, tidy and presentable at all times.
You will be required to work in full cooperation with the transport manager on a daily basis to ensure all rules and regulations are being adhered too, and that standards are maintained.
As part of the role, you will partake in regular training and toolbox talks to add to your continuous professional development.
Key requirements and expectations:
- Qualifications required –
- Current clean drivers licence (minimum class 2)
- Current CPC drivers’ hours qualifications
- Current digital tachograph card
- Experience preferred but not essential –
- Multi drop local deliveries
- The use of a Hiab lorry mounted crane
- Use of a digital vehicle check application
- Performance that the role will be judged on –
- Driver regulation compliance and infringement rate
- Customer service and feedback
- Ability to manage manual offloading
- Timeliness of deliveries and keeping to schedules
- Safe working and driving practices
- Adhering to the rules set out in the road traffic act and respect for our Operators Licence obligations
- Your polite, professional and positive manner with colleagues, managers and customers
- Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and training
Salary range:
Standard hours: 8am ‑5pm Monday to Friday, with a flexible approach to occasional earlier starts or slightly later finishes.
Annual leave entitlement: 22 days P.A. Plus statutory days. (Days to be retained for 2 week Christmas shutdown.)
