Post & Rail Fencing
Used normally to either to mark a boundary or restrict the movement of animal stock, post and rail fencing is bought for its strength, and provides a low-cost fence ideal when you do not wish to restrict the view of your surroundings.
Square cut, round and half round post and rail options
If you are looking for a timber square cut finish with post and rails sawn to create straight edges, we recommend the use of our PermaTimber® posts with their 15-year guarantee. These posts are made from FSC certified timber and our 38mm x 88mm fencing rail also known as a motorway rail. As an alternative, we also offer half round rails and round timber posts, stakes and strainers. Tanalised for long life and made from FSC certified timber options including our unique D shape rail that makes an excellent hand rail as well as a fence rail.
Installation
Wooden fence rails are normally nailed to intermediate posts at 1.8m centres and for best results joints should be staggered to ensure that the fence’s weight is distributed evenly. Another popular method is to have the posts set at 3.6m centres, with a post in the centre of the bay usually made from the same material as the rail, pointed and driven into the ground with the rails nailed to it to helps stop the rails from bowing. Rails are normally fixed with nails and if you wish to use the fence to restrict the movement of animals it is a good idea to nail the rail from behind so the rail is pushed back into the nail if an animal leans against it.
